Key Election Issues

Dave stands for

Better, safer local roads. More footpaths, particularly on high-traffic flow streets.  The protection of our irreplaceable natural environment, as well as an increase in the upgrading of our local parks, for the benefit of all.  I want to eliminate Council’s financial waste, in order to ensure every rate payer receives the maximum return on their rates.

Integrity and Accountability

Accountability is one of the essential guarantees of an efficient and ethical public administration. I am dedicated to upholding moral values to serve the public competently, efficiently, honestly, responsibly, fairly and accountably.

Better Safer Local Roads

Local road safety initiatives are paramount in my campaign to be elected as your representative for Division 3. Local support for my plans has encouraged me to want to improve road safety through implementing ‘traffic calming’ strategies that suit particular problem roads. As I have been meeting local residents I have been getting signs fixed and problem roads investigated for a solution. I will continue to work with traffic engineers to address any safety concerns and get things fixed. I will aim to get any pot holes fixed promptly.

Reducing Financial Waste and Freezing Rates

I intend to do all I can to ensure Logan Council’s financial expenditure is managed in a far more detailed manner, to ensure every dollar that comes from the ratepayer is spent in the most cost-effective way as possible. I also promise to ensure Council waste is eliminated. In short, I want every ratepayer’s dollar to be used wisely, and to freeze rates as long as possible.

Hooning

I want to empower the public to help me work with community groups like Neighbourhood Watch to report instances of hooning in their suburb. If we can all work together, the community and I can have a real effect on the reduction of this anti-social behaviour, by actively passing on details of hooning to Police. I’ll support driving programmes to improve road safety, get young people involved, and promote the Hoon Line 134 666 (13HOON).

Parking

The worst parking problem areas are centred around major institutions like Logan Hospital, and Park ‘n’ ride stations, where insufficient planning for public parking was conducted in the past. But, now that these things exist, the best I can do is actively lobby, in most cases, the State Government, to take immediate remedial steps to increase the number of public parking spaces. I know this is required, I’m being told it’s a problem and I want to get it fixed.

Easing Traffic Congestion

Traffic congestion should improve around Daisy Hill, Slacks Creek and Underwood once the Federal / State Government works on the Pacific Motorway are completed around late 2023 early 2024.  However, I’m determined to do all I can to improve traffic flow on local and suburban roads.  As I am putting you first, I promise I will never stop lobbying all levels of Government to secure the funds to continue to reduce and ease congestion.

Division 3 now includes the Eastern part of Underwood and the Western two thirds of Shailer Park. The Eastern boundary has moved from Daisy Hill Road to Plantain Road, Kimberley Drive and around the back of the Kimberley Plateau. A part of Kingston south of Queens Road has moved to Division 2.

Preserving our natural environment

I will strive to preserve and protect our local bushland, waterways and wildlife.

I will advocate for improvements to parks including Underwood Slacks Creek Park, Mabel Park, Meakin Park, Daisy Hill Conservation Park and Kimberley Forest Park. There will also be an off the leash Dog Park in Akers Park Underwood.
